| Here we go again, it's the playoffs! After all the hard work I do, feeding your egos with stats, it's time for me to sit back, have fun, and enjoy being just a fan! Looking forward to some great games this week, but first I have to do this... WHO: Second Coming (4-4) vs Vick's Pet Shop (4-4) TIME: 7:45am SERIES: First Meeting LINE: Second Coming by 6pts POWER RANKINGS: Second Coming #17; Vick's Pet Shop #21 KEY MATCH-UP: Nathan Hicks vs Andrew Dochez THE SKINNY: There is one more playoff spot left to be decided and this game will determine who will get the "honor" of playing the defending champion Bombers in the first round! Second Coming's defense held on to keep the Iron Pigskins offense in their pigpens last week while Vick's Pet Shop got mauled by PrimeTime in their finale! This should be an intriguing match-up between 2 solid teams (for being .500 of course). I believe this play-in game will be just an overtime period, though I'd love to see a full game between these 2 teams! WINNER: Anything can happen in 1 overtime period, this one should go to double overtime! Second Coming's defense will win them the #8 seed! Second Coming - 12 vs Vick's Pet Shop - 6 Now onto the first round..... _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: Legends (6-2) vs Warriors (6-2) TIME: 8am SERIES: Legends lead series 1-0; Legends won last meeting 70-0 LINE: Legends by 20pts POWER RANKINGS: Legends #3; Warriors #13 KEY MATCH-UP: Legends D-Line vs Warriors D-Line THE SKINNY: Another season, another championship run to attempt for the Legends. Can Matt Zaun finally lead his team to victory? Congratulations again to the Warriors for making the playoffs for the first time, your first playoff opponents are the Legends. Back when the Warriors weren't exactly a 6-2 team, the Legends put on a 70 point clinic against them! But these aren't those same Warriors, remember how the Warriors' defense held the Playboys to only 20 points this season? What kind of challenge can the Warriors' defense pose for the Legends' offense? QB Gary Hutchinson has his work cut out for him against Craig Snyder and the Legends' defense, he'll have to play smart with the football and he might have to score often to keep up with the Legends, should the Warriors' defense slip up here and there! WINNER: I find it hard to believe it will be another 70-0 clinic, but the Legends should do enough to secure the victory here. Warriors should be proud of themselves this season, win or lose here! Legends - 28 vs Warriors - 12 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: Stahley's (6-2) vs The Nutz (6-2) TIME: 8am SERIES: Stahley's leads series 1-0; Stahley's won last meeting 29-25 LINE: Stahleys by 2pts POWER RANKINGS: Stahley's #10; The Nutz #9 KEY MATCH-UP: Jim Gillespie vs Matt Williamson THE SKINNY: The first of many regular season rematches in the first round! Jim Gillespie and Stahley's has yet to win a playoff game in the UFFL, they look to knock off The Nutz again this Sunday and give me some more attitude afterwards haha! While The Nutz look to get even and hopefully make a run at the championship! With Matt Williamson and Joey Perkins leading the way, The Nutz are in good shape to do just that! WINNER: The Nutz won't let Stahley's get in position to steal another one! The Nutz - 32 vs Stahley's - 23 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: Shoey's Jeep (5-3) vs Glory Hogs (7-1) TIME: 9am SERIES: First Meeting LINE: Shoey's by 12pts POWER RANKINGS: Shoey's Jeep #5; Glory Hogs #11 KEY MATCH-UP: Jason Bond vs Jesse Glass THE SKINNY: Shoey's Jeep is in a good position to do big things in the playoffs this season. They have a roster of superstars of their own now and if everyone shows up, they could very well return to the championship game! And I know Mike DeMarteliere wants another shot at the Bombers after fallling short by 1 point last season as the captain of Blue Dogg! Travis Fink along with the late additions of Dwayne Grays and Toyae Berry make Shoey's Jeep a very dangerous team offensively. On defense, Jason Bond and Bill Carmody have had their best seasons yet on the defensive line. Congratulations again to the Glory Hogs for also making the playoffs for the first time! Now comes their toughest test yet as they will face Shoey's Jeep. And unfortunately, they will have to do it without one of their key playmakers, Jared Ferrell. Alsaiah Gross will have to find another way to put some points on the board to keep up with Shoey's! This fall's sack king Jesse Glass & Samuel Johnson also have their work cut for them against a solid Shoey's offensive line. What challenges can the Glory Hogs' defense pose for Shoey's? We all know defense wins championships, hopefully the Glory Hogs will come to this game prepared! WINNER: The Glory Hogs go out as fast as they got in! Shoey's Jeep - 39 vs Glory Hogs - 14 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: Playboys (7-1) vs Team Hammer (4-4) TIME: 9am SERIES: Playboys lead series 2-0; Playboys won last meeting 27-18 LINE: Playboys by 15pts POWER RANKINGS: Playboys #2; Team Hammer #8 KEY MATCH-UP: Playboys WRs vs Team Hammer D-backs THE SKINNY: For the 2nd week in a row, these 2 teams will square off! What can Team Hammer do differently to finally achieve victory over the Playboys? Regardless, it must be a team effort or they will fall short yet again! The only thing standing in the way of a championship for the Playboys is themselves (the Bombers are a given haha!)! WINNER: The Playboys should win this one too. Playboys - 34 vs Team Hammer - 24 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: PrimeTime (7-1) vs East Side (4-4) TIME: 10am SERIES: PrimeTime leads series 1-0; PrimeTime won last meeting 24-20 LINE: PrimeTime by 10pts POWER RANKINGS: PrimeTime #7; East Side #14 KEY MATCH-UP: East Side O-Line vs PrimeTime D-Line THE SKINNY: This is the best I've ever seen PrimeTime play this fall! The playoffs for this team will be about proving the naysayers wrong, can they silence the critics and make an improbable run for the championship? It will be an extremely difficult road for them! And it starts against East Side, a team looking to make an improbable run of their own. And they want to start it off by getting even against PrimeTime! WINNER: PrimeTime passes their first test. PrimeTime - 26 vs East Side - 18 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: Volpes (7-1) vs Alcom (5-3) TIME: 10am SERIES: Volpes lead series 1-0; Volpes won last meeting 32-30 LINE: Volpes by 7pts POWER RANKINGS: Volpes #4; Alcom #15 KEY MATCH-UP: Kyle Lahue vs Kenny Greb THE SKINNY: Volpes once again find themselves favored to make the championship game! Can they come through this time? Alcom started off losing their first 3 games but then they went out and won their last 5, which was unbelievable! And in week 3, they almost knocked off this same Volpes team, can they repeat that same performance in the playoffs? One thing's for sure, this is going to be the best #1-#8 matchup in UFFL history! WINNER: Alcom will be right there again but they just won't be able to do it! Volpes - 30 vs Alcom - 22 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: Bombers (8-0) vs Second Coming/Vick's Pet Shop winner TIME: 11am SERIES: Bombers lead Second Coming series 1-0; Bombers won last meeting 28-19; Bombers-Vick's Pet Shop is a First Meeting LINE: Bombers by 40pts POWER RANKINGS: Bombers #1 KEY MATCH-UP: Second Coming O-Line vs Bombers D-Line THE SKINNY: If Week 7's defensively dominating performance against the Playboys doesn't prove the Bombers are THE best team in this league, I don't know what does! Not only that, that performance might mean that there could be no team capable of challenging the Bombers in their quest for a 3-peat this season, will it be the cake walk it seems to be? The only team to challenge them this season was Second Coming and they didn't have Mike Gruber (their QB) playing in that game! Should Second Coming win the play-in game, can they challenge the Bombers at full strength this time? WINNER: The Bombers are going to dominate the play-in game winner! Bombers - 41 vs Second Coming - 12 or Bombers - 64 vs Vick's Pet Shop - 8 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WHO: D.C. Snipers (7-1) vs Blitz (5-3) TIME: 11am SERIES: Series tied 1-1; D.C. Snipers won last meeting 20-15 LINE: Snipers by 3pts POWER RANKINGS: D.C. Snipers #6; Blitz #12 KEY MATCH-UP: Snipers' WRs vs Blitz D-backs THE SKINNY: Deja Vu! The Snipers & Blitz once again face each other in the first round of the playoffs! In week 7, the Snipers defense did not let up, no matter how many plays the Blitz got per drive. They can't let penalties put them in that position again, it's too risky. Can the Snipers overcome the Blitz again and finally make a run for the championship among the league's elites? The Blitz made it back to the playoffs and they made it on the backs of Jon Kingcade, Kris Holzworth, and Jimmy Harris! And they did it without their star QB Morgan Keller, the hot-headed yet proven playmaker under the center. Will lightning strike twice in the playoffs against the Snipers? WINNER: Nope not this time! D.C. Snipers - 27 vs Blitz - 13 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now here are my general predictions for Round 2.... Glory Hogs-Blitz: Glory Hogs, in a shootout Glory Hogs-D.C. Snipers: Snipers, another blowout Shoey's Jeep-Blitz: Shoey's Jeep, remember Blue Dogg round 2 last spring? worse Shoey's Jeep-D.C. Snipers: Shoey's Jeep, the Snipers are up against more than they were in week 4 Stahley's-Alcom: Stahley's, they get even in another nailbiter Stahley's-Volpes: Volpes, the usual end result The Nutz-Alcom: The Nutz, this time Alcom won't have first game jitters so it should be close The Nutz-Volpes: The Nutz, Volpes exits early again in another upset, Skinny's Upset Pick of the Week! Vick's Pet Shop-Warriors: Warriors Second Coming-Warriors: Warriors, Warriors know how to win against them and they just came off from the Legends win Bombers-Warriors: Bombers, they are the champs after all! Vick's Pet Shop-Legends: Legends, Vick's should score more than 6 this time Second Coming-Legends: Legends, Second Coming should provide a challenge but the Legends should be able to keep them at bay Bombers-Legends: Bombers, without Williamson or Stewart, the Legends will need Steve Parr come up big here, otherwise the Bombers will roll, though it is the playoffs, it might be closer this time East Side-Team Hammer: Team Hammer, East Side actually scores a couple points this time East Side-Playboys: Playboys, without Alsaiah Gross, East Side's scoring capabilities against a team like this will be severely crippled, could be another shutout PrimeTime-Team Hammer: PrimeTime, proving week 7 was no fluke PrimeTime-Playboys: Playboys, PrimeTime may be able to win as a team against Team Hammer superstars but the Playboys' superstars are on a whole 'nother level, they should make it interesting again though Good luck gentleman, see you Sunday! |
